Trump National Doral Miami

We kick off our list of the best Miami golf resorts with the stunning Trump National Doral Miami. Regardless of your political leanings, there is one thing you can’t deny and that is that Donald Trump has within his portfolio some outstanding golf resorts and golf courses.

The resort is located in Doral, which is a half hour’s drive from downtown Miami. But more conveniently, just a twenty minute drive from Miami’s International airport.

Ever since the resort opened its doors in 1960, it has been one of the iconic places to stay in Miami. And it is no surprise why.

A litany of awards from all the major publications, its luxurious surroundings and first-class service, there are so many reasons to want to stay here.

There are over six-hundred guest rooms comprising deluxe, premier and presidential suites. On top of that, you’ll find forty-eight highly sought after spa suites. Every one of these accommodations have been tastefully decorated as villa-style lodges and are within easy reach of all the hotel amenities.

For your dining experience, there are three main restaurants to choose from. The Champions Bar & Grill has a super-popular sports bar vibe. Whilst the Palm Grill offers the option to dine poolside with lighter, arguably more health conscious dishes.

But the signature restaurant is without doubt the BLT Prime American Steakhouse. Located at the clubhouse, expect the finest Prime Certified Angus cuts of beef with a delectable wine menu.

A 48,000 square foot spa ensures it’s not just golfers who visit here. Whilst you can expect the usual panoply of facilities including the Royal Palm Pool with its 125 foot slide, brand new tennis courts, fitness center, sauna, jacuzzi…the list goes on.

But clearly the golf offering is what it’s all about. And on that front the resort certainly doesn’t let down.  Home to four top class championship golf courses, this is a bucket list destination in itself.

The Red Tiger, Golden Palm and Silver Fox are all in their own right impressive courses with some A-list golf course designers. But the star of the show is the Blue Monster, a consistent feature on the PGA Tour rota.

Originally designed by Robert Von Hagge in the 1960s, it more recently underwent a major renovation led by the immensely talented Gil Hanse. The list of courses Hanse has to his name are truly impressive. And now the Blue Monster steps confidently into the conversation as one of Hanse’s finest renovations.

JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa

Out in Aventura, a forty minute drive north up the coast from downtown Miami, is the sensational JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa.

First things first, the lush tropical surroundings. Verdant gardens welcome guests, as does the awe-inspiring 100-year-old Banyan tree. This is a vibe which flows throughout the resort, balancing a luxurious yet informal vibe.

As you explore the 300-acre resort, you’ll notice the Mediterranean-inspired architecture and marble footways. This is elegant stuff.

There are 685 contemporary guest rooms and suites spread across four luxury towers. Every single one offers either a private balcony or terrace which overlooks the gardens.

Of the dining options onsite, there are two which are head and shoulders above the rest. Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, an award winning steak house. Whilst Corsair Kitchen & Bar serves a wide range of modern comfort food, ideal for something a little less formal.

One area the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry is head and shoulders above some of the other resorts, is the fact it has its own waterpark. Yes, you heard me right. The resort’s own Tidal Cove Waterpark which features a range of slides, rides, wave machine, lazy river and even a surfing machine.

And to round things off, the two fantastic Raymond Floyd redesigned 18-hole championship courses. These are the Soffer and Miller courses, which were originally both Robert Trent Jones Sr. designs.

Both are outstanding albeit the Miller Course is significantly shorter than the Soffer. Expect pristine fairways, sculpted bunkers and an abundance of lagoons, lakes and creeks.

The Biltmore Hotel Miami – Coral Gables

As one of the most iconic landmarks on the Miami cityscape, The Biltmore Hotel Miami – Coral Gables is one of Miami’s finest golf resorts.

The elegant suburbs of Coral Gables were master-planned by the land developer George Merrick. In 1924, Merrick then teamed up with the Biltmore hotel magnate John McEntee Bowman. Together, they set out to build one of the greatest hotels in southern Florida.

The heartbeat of the site is the huge central tower, which feels like a cross between Mediterranean and Italian architecture. Some might even argue Moorish. Yet whatever it claims to be or was inspired by, it is as iconic as it is impressive.

The hotel oozes class and luxury, especially throughout its opulent guest rooms. There is a whole range of room choices. Yet even its most ‘basic’ room type, the Superior Room, would put many other hotels to shame.

A variety of options await for when you choose where to eat. The 19th Hole offers casual bites, whilst Cascade, which overlooks the famous Biltmore pool, offers Mediterranean fare.

But their signature restaurant, the superb Fontana, serves up outstanding Italian classics, alongside a vast wine menu.

As you would expect, the resort is home to a first-class spa, modern fitness center, ten lighted tennis courts as well as the renowned Biltmore pool. Unbelievably, it is one of the largest hotel pools in the country, measuring around 23,000 square feet!

Last but not least, a nod to golf’s Golden Age of architecture, is the Donald Ross designed 18-hole course. Recently updated by the highly respected Brian Silva, it is at its heart a Ross course and is incredibly fun to play.

Miami Lakes Hotel

The last of our best golf resorts in Miami, is the fantastic Miami Lakes Hotel. Located in the pretty town of Miami Lakes, just a few miles from the Miami International Airport, this is a very different option to those that have come before.

For starters, the hotel is far more modern, which is as much centered towards business travelers as it is leisure vacationers. The inside is spacious and airy with modern decor and contemporary furniture.

It also happens to be one of the last truly independent hotels in central Miami, which is relatively unique in itself. That uniqueness manifests itself in an obsessive focus on customer service. So much so, they have a commitment towards creating ‘Raving Fans’.

Compared to some of the aforementioned Miami golf resorts, there aren’t the same ‘out of this world’ amenities. That said, some might argue what more than a large elegant outdoor pool could you want?

Guests also have complimentary access to the Miami Lakes athletic club which is next door. This 48,000 square foot facility can offer 8 lighted tennis courts, a variety of fitness classes including spinning and pilates, a sizable gymnasium and so much more.

ML Steaks + Sports, is the place to eat here. Overlooking the tropical lagoon and courtyard, it serves up a range of typical American fare. Enjoy tucking into a quality burger whilst catching up on the latest sports on one of the 50 HD TVs!

For golfers, you have access to Miami Lakes Golf Club, which is a couple of minutes drive from the hotel.

The course is routed across nearly 500-acres of beautiful grounds featuring glades of trees, large lakes and of course the par 72 championship golf course designed by Bill Watts.

It was most recently upgraded by Kipp Schulties to pull the course into the twenty-first century and improve the playability.
