In this blog post we look at the best golf resorts in the US for couples. To keep things interesting, I’ve grouped them into four different categories (which you can click on if you’re impatient!). These are;

  1. Oceanside retreats
  2. Glorious lakes & forests
  3. Golfing heartlands
  4. Desert luxury

Within each of these themes, I’ve also listed them loosely according to the cost, going from most expensive down to more affordable.

But let me stress, every single resort listed below is a fantastic option.

Are these good options for a romantic golf getaway?

Every golf resort listed below is perfect for a romantic golf getaway. But it’s not just about romance.

When I think about going on a golf vacation, I immediately think about going away with my golf buddies. This is what I’ve always done and hopefully, health permitting, will continue to do.

But a golf vacation can be more than just you and your golf buddies. What about your other half, be it your partner, wife, husband etc?

Clearly if your other half plays golf, that helps. Someone to tee it up with and enjoy the outdoors. I’m sure there’s a famous quote that says couples who play golf together, stay together!

But what if your other half doesn’t play golf?

Funnily enough this is the position I find myself in. Nonetheless, my wife and I still go away on couples golf vacations. The fact she doesn’t play golf doesn’t in any way mean we can’t go away together and enjoy ourselves.

But this is where finding the right places to stay is critical. I’ve traveled all over the world playing golf, so I speak from experience. And in this particular list, I’m listing out what I think the best golf resorts in the US for couples are.

If however, you’re just looking to find out what the best golf resort is in the US, I’ve already explored that in a different blog. If you want to read that post, here is the link – what is the best golf resort in the US?

What defines one of the best golf resorts in the US for couples?

There are a few consistent attributes I look for when choosing which golf resorts to select for this list.

Dining Options

It is essential each of these have a top class restaurant onsite. Ideally there would be two or more to give you some variety, but it is not critical.

Spa Facilities

Even more important if your other half doesn’t play golf! But to make this list each resort needs to have quality spa and leisure facilities to enjoy.

Location

Obvious one isn’t it. But location is an important one. Be it a coastal location with ocean views or perched high on top of a mountain with views as far as the eye can see…we’re looking for something just that bit special.

Ambiance

And lastly, one which might be more subjective, but a golf resort which has a nice vibe. It ‘feels’ special. Not too basic or corporate. But instead somewhere with character and soul. Somewhere you want to relax and chill out.

And those are the simple criteria to choosing the best golf resorts in the US for couples.

Oh and to point out the obvious, I obviously try not to choose any resorts clearly orientated towards families with kids.

Without further procrastinating, let’s get into the list of best golf resorts in the US for couples.

Best Golf Resorts in US for Couples – Oceanside Retreats

Sea Island Resort “Multiple award-winner”

The Lodge at Sea Island, Georgia

The ultimate in indulgence and without doubt one of the finest golf resorts in the US for couples. There are few golf resorts who have been awarded four Forbes Five-Star awards, let alone 14 consecutive years (at the time of writing!).

Sea Island Resort is surrounded by miles of private beaches, located on the magnificent Georgia coastline.

There are three accommodation options. The Cloister is the elegant main hotel, both spacious inside and out. The Lodge is a boutique hotel with ocean views. And finally the Sea Island Cottages, perfect for a larger gathering.

There is a range of dining options. The most romantic amongst them include Tavola, an authentic and rustic inspired Italian, as well as Southern Tide, down at the Beach Club. The al fresco dining experience serves exquisite seafood with oceanside views.

The golf is world-class, with three championship courses. You’ll also find vast practice areas with a 17,000 square foot performance center.

Iconic spa and state-of-the-art fitness center complete the package.

The Resort at Pelican Hill “Mediterranean-inspired luxury in Newport Beach”

Perched up high within 504 acres of beautiful grounds, is The Resort at Pelican Hill.

This five-star luxury resort overlooks the glorious Pacific coastline. You may feel a world away from everything, and yet you’re only a 45 minute drive from Los Angeles’ International Airport.

This sanctuary of seclusion is a throwback to traditional Italian architecture. Domes, sculptures, arches and clay roof tiles combine to great effect.

You have the choice of staying in one of the bungalows or villas, each a residential style accommodation.

Wherever you are in the resort, there are stunning views out to the ocean. The large elegant Coliseum pool is the perfect example of this. For a bit more privacy, try one of the uber-luxury private cabanas circling the pool.

You can’t go far wrong trying out the Coliseum Pool & Grill, which serves some of the most delectable seasonal ingredients. There are some great meat options, but the seafood is to die for.

There is an elegant and cozy spa. Whilst the resort boasts two championship golf courses, both designed by the legendary Tom Fazio.

The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay “Panoramic Pacific views”

Half Moon Bay Golf Links-, San Francisco, California

The impressive Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay sits atop a rugged oceanside bluff with stunning views out towards the Pacific Ocean.

Not only is the location spectacular, but you’re also just a half hour’s drive to San Francisco if you want to get out for the day.

The hotel is made up of a number of suites, with the one-bedroom suite the best value. But it is well worth spending a touch more and upgrading to the Luxury Suites to benefit from the ocean views.

If you’re looking for a refined seafood menu with unabridged views of the sea, visit Navio’s. Alternatively the Conservatory serves up prime cuts of meat with signature cocktails. Both are great options.

The spa is 16,000 square feet with a fitness center and all the latest Techno gym equipment.

From a golf perspective, two outstanding championship layouts lie in wait. The aptly named Ocean course is a traditional Scottish design with subtle undulations and wild fescue grass.

The Old Course is a parkland-style layout originally designed by Arnold Palmer, but renovated by Arthur Hills in 1999.

Ritz-Carlton Kapalua “Island paradise in Maui”

The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua - Signature Image

Where do you even start with this stunning golf resort for couples?

On the northwest shore of Maui, situated within one of the state’s largest nature preserves is the epic Ritz-Carlton Kapalua.

For starters, the Plantation golf course, which is consistently ranked as Hawaii’s best golf course. Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, this is bucket list golf. Alongside the Plantation Course is the superb and local favorite, the Bay Course.

The resort’s luxury accommodation options are all built around the central pool area, which features palms, waterfalls and private cabanas.

Six different dining options are there for the taking. But on a couples vacation, the two I’d veer towards would be the Banyan Tree, the resort’s signature restaurant. Expect locally sourced ingredients and a vibrant menu reflecting the season.

Alternatively, pop down to the Burger Shack. It doesn’t sound particularly romantic, but this alfresco restaurant has stunning ocean views and has a relaxed vibe where you can enjoy a cocktail or cold beer.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa Maui Kapalua is well worth indulging in, with a number of treatments inspired by the ancient island traditions.

Mauna Lani “Sacred oasis on the Kohala coast”

Considered one of the finest golf resorts on the island of Hawaii, the Mauna Lani is a special place.

One of the newest resorts on the island, expect first class luxury. As you walk in, the main lobby atrium is spectacular. Large and impressive, it houses fully grown palm trees which just add to the relaxed vibe.

All hotel guestrooms have a contemporary and organic decor. Cozy yet modern and understated. Depending on the mood and budget, there is a whole range of different guest rooms and residences available.

CanoeHouse is a great place to relax whilst serving outstanding food. There are indoor and outdoor spaces offering unparalleled views. And the food is to die for. Serving only the freshest local ingredients, it balances tradition and innovation perfectly.

Multiple activities and facilities are onsite, including the Mauna Lani golf club. It is home to two pedigree courses, the North Course and South Course, both considered amongst the best golf courses in Hawaii.

The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort “A sanctuary overlooking the Atlantic”

The Sanctuary Hotel - Kiawah Island - Photo credit Kiawah Island Golf Resort

Just 21 miles from the iconic city of Charleston, is the celebrated Sanctuary.

This is a luxury oceanfront hotel and a renowned destination in golfing circles. Its reputation precedes it, primarily because of the world-recognised Ocean Course onsite.

The Ocean Course has hosted a number of major golf tournaments including a Ryder Cup in 1991. This is one of ‘the’ places to come and play golf in the United States.

So highly regarded, I also referenced Kiawah Island Golf Resort in my blog post, what is the best golf resort in the United States? Alongside Pebble Beach Resort in California, Kiawah Island Golf Resort (including the Sanctuary) was ranked as one of the two best.

The Sanctuary is simply sublime. Elegant accommodations and regularly the recipient of Forbes Five-Star service recognition.

The facilities are first class. These include a superb spa, indoor and outdoor pools, none of which can be used by guests of the neighboring Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

There are two delectable dining options at the Sanctuary. The Ocean Room which is a premier steakhouse. And Jasmine Porch which serves authentic Lowcountry cuisine.

Sea Pines Resort “In the heart of Hilton Head”

Harbour Town at Sea Pines Resort, South Carolina

Sea Pines Resort on the island of Hilton Head, really is the perfect romantic golf getaway.

The resort is consistently ranked as one of the best hotels on Hilton Head Island. It is also considered one of the best golf resorts in the Carolinas by Golf Digest editors.

This quiet retreat occupies 5,000 oceanfront acres and houses three world-class golf courses; Harbour Town Golf Links and Heron Point by Pete Dye, as well as Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III.

There are three distinct accommodation options at the resort. Although for couples I would definitely recommend The Inn & Club At Harbour Town. This is a boutique style residence and considered Hilton Head’s no.1 rated hotel.

The decor and vibe is sensational, like a home-from-home type feeling.

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to food options. Personally I would recommend the restaurant Coast, located at the Sea Pines Beach Club. This beautifully appointed restaurant serves up scrumptious fresh, local seafood, all with panoramic oceanfront views.

Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa “Florida’s premier oceanfront hotel”

Hammock Beach Club - Nicklaus Ocean Course

What more can I say, Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa is without doubt one of Florida’s premier oceanfront hotels.

Now clearly, there are many luxury hotels in Florida who may dispute that. But the fact remains, this is a fabulous resort and perfect for a romantic golf getaway.

The resort is located in Palm Beach, just over an hour’s drive from Jacksonville. You’re also just over half an hour’s drive to St Augustine. The city renowned for its Spanish colonial architecture is well worth a visit.

There is a subtle yet sophisticated decor running throughout the resort, which continues through into the accommodation options. Choose from ocean view hotel rooms as well as condos or villas.

When it comes to golf, you have two championship courses to choose from. But the Jack Nicklaus designed Ocean Course is terrific. Consistently ranked as one of the best resort courses in the US, expect breathtaking views and pristine wetlands.

The resort prides itself on the quantity and quality of its facilities. The Fantasy Pool Complex might be slightly kid-friendly, something I’ve tried to veer away from in this list. But there are many discreet places to set up for the day, away from any noise.

There is a vast indoor pool area as well as a 10,000 square foot spa with 10 exquisite treatment rooms.

So many great dining options await. But for the romantic options, I would choose either the awe-inspiring Stix Authentic Sushi. Or Delfinos Italian Chophouse, where you’ll enjoy an extensive wine list with Italian classics.

Best Golf Resorts in US for Couples – Lakes & Forests

Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee “Sprawling lakeside luxury”

Ritz-Carlton-Reynolds-Resort, Georgia

A world of solitude away from the hustle and bustle of Georgia’s capital city, Atlanta. What more could you want?

Set upon the shore of the picturesque Lake Oconee, the sprawling Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee excels in lakeside luxury. There are no pretensions here, everything is relaxed and tranquil.

The spacious accommodation options range between lakeside cottages and luxury suites. With garden or lake views on offer, it is definitely worth spending that bit more to get the peaceful lake views.

When it comes to facilities, there is no better place to be. There is so much to choose from, including tennis, fishing, lake swimming, kayaking, wellness activities, shooting sports and so much more.

There is an epic 30,000 square foot spa with all the luxury you would expect from Ritz-Carlton. Steam room, plunge pools, saunas, extensive relaxation facilities….you name it, they have it!

Alongside these facilities, are the five, yes, five, championship golf courses. And not any old courses. We’re talking A-grade designers such as Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Bob Cupp and Rees Jones.

Finally, when it comes to dining at this Lake Oconee resort, expect Southern inspired dishes with ingredients cultivated by local farmers. The Linger Longer Steakhouse is exceptional. Open fires and comfortable decor accompany prime cuts of meat and tableside carvings.

Omni Mount Washington Resort “Mountain-top Crystal Hills venue”

Omni Mount Washington Resort, New Hampshire - Exterior

There are few resorts where when you first see them, you hear yourself say ‘wow’. This is what it feels like first seeing Omni Mount Washington Resort.

The central point to this magnificent resort is the grand hotel structure, inspired by Spanish Renaissance architecture. So huge, it literally dominates the surrounding landscape. But in a good way. This is no eye-sore.

The resort is in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. Close to the state-lines of both Maine and Vermont. It’s also just an hour and a half’s drive from Canada.

There is a whole range of luxury accommodation options. But going with that special person, I would recommend considering the Deluxe Rooms or above as some of the more traditional rooms are a bit tight on space.

Pre-dinner drinks and dinner itself are a real experience. The wonderful Cave, in the depths of the resort, is a really unique place to grab a delicious cocktail.

You can then make your way up to either Stickney’s Restaurant, a pub style steakhouse, or the Main Dining Room. The latter is arguably best for couples, with a casual yet sophisticated dining experience.

There is a 25,000 square foot spa, with heated indoor and outdoor pools.

As for the golf, play a classic Donald Ross designed layout, considered one of the best golf courses in New Hampshire.

Big Cedar Lodge “A classic wilderness resort”

30 Lakeside Cabin exterior - Big Cedar Lodge, Missouri

Deep in the vast and magical woodlands south of Branson, Illinois, is the epic Big Cedar Lodge. This is the heart of the Ozarks and just 4 miles from the Arkansas state border.

This is the perfect romantic golf getaway for couples who love the outdoors. Magnificent lake views, spectacular scenery and luxury accommodations.

For example, why not consider staying in one of the private log cabins. These home-from-home rustic cabins are hidden away in the trees and offer everything you could possibly need for a relaxing golf couples vacation.

With a whole range of activities on offer, no two days will be the same. With lake cruises, fishing, canyon walks, a vast fitness center, clay pigeon shooting….you name it, they’ve probably got it.

Add to this the array of different golfing options. Two top class 18-hole championship layouts, including the sensational Ozarks National designed by Coore and Crenshaw.

There is also a great fun 9-hole par-3 layout, Top of the Rocks. Payne’s Valley, a 19-hole championship layout and the 13-hole Mountain Top short course. No matter how much time you have, there is an option for you.

Plenty of dining options present themselves. Devil’s Pool is great fun. Rustic decor combining the best of southern homestyle cooking. Whilst Arnie’s Barn offers traditional Texas style BBQ and contemporary Tex-Mex cuisine.

Big Cedar Lodge is up there as one of the best value golf couples vacations.

The Greenbrier “Legacy and prestige all in one”

The Greenbrier Hotel and Resort, West Virginia

Occupying an immense plot in the Allegheny Mountains, West Virginia, is the iconic Greenbrier. This historic resort has been welcoming guests for centuries, having opened in 1778.

The size and scale of the hotel offers a similar reaction to the Omni Mount Washington. You can’t help but stop and admire its grand facade.

This impressive structure has been a mainstay on the American golf circuit. But it has also cultivated a reputation as one of the best places for a romantic golf getaway.

However, this is not contemporary and modern luxury. Quite the opposite. This is old-school, traditional elegance. Floral wall-papers, patterned carpets and the decor you’d expect in aristocratic circles.

The various different styles of rooms all have their own character. And there are many to choose from with a number of different suite options available.

Resort dining is on another level, with a total of 20 restaurants, lounges and bars to choose from.

The Main Dining Room simply has to be visited. Arched windows, stately columns and bespoke-made chandeliers give you the whole Greenbrier experience. Over the years the dining room has received its fair share of awards. But of course, if this doesn’t rock your boat, there are plenty of other options!

And what to do if not playing golf? A vast spa with a litany of different treatments. One of the finest casinos in the country. Over 50 different indoor and outdoor activities to engage in. Retail therapy onsite. The list just goes on and on.

The Coeur d’Alene Resort “Lakeside Luxury in Idaho”

Coeur d'Alene Resort - Lake view, Idaho

Right up in the northern premises of Idaho, is the luxury retreat of Coeur d’Alene Resort.

This is a wonderful setup and if you and your other half are water sports aficionados, you’re in the right place. The resort buffers the scenic Lake Coeur d’Alene and offers a variety of different activities involving the water.

There are 338 lavishly appointed guest rooms with all the mod-cons to be expected of a first-class resort. There is a real emphasis towards comfort, with luxurious fine linens and custom pillow-top mattresses.

When it comes to dining at the hotel, there is just one option for couples. Beverly’s, which is positioned on the 7th floor, is simply stunning. Rated as one of America’s top restaurants, it offers magnificent lake views and the Pacific Northwest’s largest wine cellar.

The spa is superb and the golf is divine. Without doubt one of the most beautiful golf courses on the planet, it is in pristine condition and has outstanding views.

But what is the course renowned for? The mind-boggling floating 14th green. The par-3 green changes position daily and can be moved from 90 to 220 yards. Definitely one to tick off the bucket list.

Spruce Peak at Stowe “Mountain Golf”

The Lodge at Spruce PEak - Vermont, Permission Given

One of the few, if only resorts on this list, which is more popular in the winter than it is in the summer. Spruce Peak at Stowe is located at the base of Mount Mansfield with numerous ski runs providing ample winter entertainment.

Yet during the summer time, this resort morphs into an outdoor enthusiasts paradise. There are some sensational hiking trails through the majestic woodlands.

The Lodge is the main accommodation option with a number of guestrooms and suites. If you’re looking for something a bit more delectable, there are plenty of luxury vacation rentals. These include amongst others quality penthouses, townhouses and cabins.

Just staying at the resort means you will have access to the Bob Cupp designed Mountain Course. Private except for its members and guests at The Club at Spruce Peak, this is a wonderful course ranked as one of the best golf courses in Vermont.

When it comes to dining, there are really two options. The Tipsy Trout serves premium seafood in a contemporary and more toned down environment. Whilst the Alpine Hall is the opposite. Big bright spaces, with the menu celebrating the local ingredients of all the region’s best growers and farmers.

There is an expansive spa with 18 treatment rooms and a full-service fitness center. This includes a Healing Lodge, a soothing sanctuary lounge and an outdoor pool.

Best Golf Resorts in US for Couples – Golfing Heartlands

Pinehurst Resort “Heart of a Golfing Mecca”

Pinehurst-Resort, Pinehurst, North Carolina

So let’s not beat around the bush here, Pinehurst is always going to be a golfer’s destination. Nine golf courses to choose from including a short course. Add to that all the tradition and history associated with the No.2 course.

But, look a little bit deeper and you’ll find a wonderful setting for a couples golf vacation.

Most golfers come to Pinehurst and tend to stay in the Carolina Hotel, which is the flagship accommodation option. But the Holly Inn, in the heart of the Village, is another fabulous option for couples.

The Four Diamond hotel exudes a romantic charm throughout its 82 guestrooms and suites.

Food options at Pinehurst Resort cater for every taste and occasion. On one hand there is four star fine dining at 1895 Grille, located in the Holly Inn. Whilst the Carolina Dining Room offers a similar fare but with an imaginative southern spin.

And then you have proper relaxed, informal dining spots including the Ryder Cup Lounge and  The Tavern. Or alternatively, for something completely different, head up to the Pinehurst Brewing Company at 300 Magnolia Road. Expect craft beer, pizzas and smoked BBQ.

The spa is phenomenal. A whole range of treatments with all the associated facilities – steam room, sauna, whirlpool, indoor pool…you could easily spend the day here.

This is why Pinehurst Resort is a sure fire entry on the list of best golf resorts in the US for couples.

Pebble Beach Resorts “Golfing heritage at Pebble Beach”

The Inn at Spanish Bay, Monterey, California

Pebble Beach is as iconic a name in golf as you’ll get. Arguably up there with St Andrews as one of the most recognized names in golf.

Aside from the outstanding golf courses to play onsite, it is also a world-class, luxury golf resort. Alongside Kiawah Island Golf Resort, it was recognised as the best golf resort in the US in my blog post – What is the best golf resort in the United States?

There are three accommodation options, The Lodge, The Inn at Spanish Bay and Casa Palmero. But for our best golf resorts in US for couples list, we’re going to focus on The Inn at Spanish Bay.

This romantic seaside escape has a location to die for. Nestled amongst the esteemed Monterey pines, it overlooks the surrounding sand dunes and has unabridged Pacific Ocean views.

The decor throughout is contemporary elegance, with guest rooms bright and comfortable. I would 100% recommend paying a slight bit extra for the Ocean Loft rooms, which offer spectacular ocean views.

An array of award-winning chefs ensure your dining experience is second-to-none. My top two choices are Stillwater Bar & Grill, which serves outstanding seafood whilst overlooking the world famous 18th hole.

The Taproom at the clubhouse is an American steakhouse serving the finest hand-selected Prime and certified Angus beef. Be it Kobe burgers or bone in prime ribs, you’ll be in meat heaven. Wash it all down with a vintage wine or select scotch.

And last but certainly not least, is the Spa at Pebble Beach. One of a select number of spas worldwide to have received a Forbes Five-Star Award. Expect a variety of unparalleled spa services in this epic 22,000 square foot sanctuary.

The American Club Resort Hotel “Traditional and iconic service”

Whistling Straits - Straits 1 - Photo credit Kohler Co.

Maybe not quite as well known as Pebble Beach and Kiawah Island. Yet rest assured the American Club Resort Hotel has serious pedigree.

The hotel is part of the Destination Kohler brand. It is located in the village of Kohler, just inland from Sheboygan, an hour north of Milwaukee. This part of Wisconsin is beautiful, with Lake Michigan always looming in the distance.

Destination Kohler includes five-star accommodation, outstanding spa experiences and world-class golf. But let’s start with the accommodation.

There are two other options, the Inn on Woodlake and Kohler Cabin Collection, both superb. But The American Club Resort Hotel is where it all started. This iconic building is steeped in history and is the epitome of first-class service, as proven by the five-diamond award.

There are a number of different room types to enjoy and regardless of which you choose, expect nothing but the best.

Likewise, when it comes to dining, you’ll have a treat for the senses. But on a romantic golf getaway, I would recommend either the Immigrant Restaurant or the Wisconsin Room.

The latter was the original dining room and offers an elegant and comfortable atmosphere. And the Immigrant Restaurant is both rich in character and historic elegance and is multiple award-winning. This really is one of the finest hotel restaurants out there.

There is an outstanding spa but it is the golf which steps up another gear.

There are two golf courses onsite at the American Club Resort Hotel (or a mile down the road to be more precise!). This is the Blackwolf Run golf club and the two courses are the River and Meadow Valleys. A short course, The Baths, is the newest addition and is an awesome fun 10-hole par 3 course.

And then just 15 minutes away towards the coast, is the awe-inspiring Whistling Straits. Again there are two outstanding golf courses to be discovered. The first is the superb yet challenging Ryder Cup host course, the Straits. The Irish is the sister course, and albeit less heralded, no less thrilling.

Best Golf Resorts in US for Couples – Desert Luxury

Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North “Uber-luxury in the Arizona desert”

There are so many possible options around Scottsdale, we’re really spoilt for choice. But up there as one of the best golf resorts in the US for couples, is the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North.

The resort is about a half hour’s drive north from downtown Scottsdale. This rugged yet inspiring landscape is dominated by the local landmark of Pinnacle Peak. Although to be fair, this whole area is renowned for its large natural rock formations adding character at every turn.

This is no different at the resort, which is surrounded by hills of rocky outcroppings. What is impressive is how seamlessly the resort seems to harmoniously sit within its surroundings. Yet the resort is softened by the abundant vegetation which includes many saguaro cacti.

The spacious rooms are light and full of all the necessary mod cons. Nearly all of them have views over the surrounding Sonoran Desert.

For dining options, I would push you towards either the Talavera, which is a contemporary steakhouse. Or alternatively, the magnificent Onyx Bar & Lounge. Here you can enjoy smaller plates with unique food choices, whilst choosing wines by the glass or handcrafted cocktails.

There is a well-appointed spa, which caters for couples with the “couples therapy” massage. Alongside that is a vast menu of healing massages, body therapies, facial treatments…you name it.

For golf options, there are two fantastic resort courses. First up is the Monument course, a Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish design. Followed by the Pinnacle course, a pristine layout sculpted into the desert landscape.

Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort “Sleek historic elegance”

Arizona Biltmore Resort, Scottsdale, Arizona

As close to Phoenix as it is to Scottsdale, the Arizona Biltmore is an iconic establishment.

The hotel opened in 1929 and has consistently been at the forefront of couples golf vacations.

This is not a rural retreat. Quite the opposite. Aside from the greenery of two golf courses onsite, the hotel is firmly set in Phoenix’s urban outskirts.

Yet the resort is vast. So at no point do you really feel like you’re close to the city or being encroached by modern life. There is enough of a buffer to be completely detached.

For starters, the resort is elegance epitomized. You get the feeling an interior designer has carefully considered every inch of every room. And this level of sophisticated decor flows through into the resort rooms.

Although if your budget allows it, there are some amazing options to upgrade yourself to. For example, the Paradise Pool Rooms are highly sought after poolside rooms. Or select a resort room with a patio firepit… evening bliss!

There is a diverse array of dining options from smart and sophisticated, to casual and relaxed.

The perfect evening with your other half would be dinner at Renata’s Hearth, a lively Latin inspired restaurant. Followed by hand-crafted cocktails at The Wright Bar, the birthplace of the Tequila Sunrise.

The Tierra Luna Spa is a sanctuary of peace and quiet with wellness opportunities to suit every mood.

Then make your way out to one of the seven pools, although personally I would recommend Saguaro Pool. This is for adults only and features private cabanas, hot tubs and a smart bar.

And lastly, two pristine golf courses, The Adobe and the Links make a pleasurable day on the course. Worth noting the golf club is a separate entity to the hotel, so you’ll need to liaise directly with the golf club for tee times.

The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa “Luxury a short drive from the strip”

Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort - Pool and Lake view - Website

You couldn’t surely have a list of best golf resorts in the US for couples without having something in Vegas? Surely!

So here we go, the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa. This wonderful golf resort is just a half hour drive from the infamous Strip. Yet you feel a world away from the noise and glamor in this sumptuous 21 acre setting overlooking Lake Las Vegas.

The hotel is newly renovated, so everything just feels new and fresh. Even just hanging out in some of the communal areas is genuinely enjoyable.

The spacious rooms and suites have all benefited from a refresh too, many with fantastic views across the lake.

Rick’s Cafe is the main restaurant onsite serving modern comfort food. But the place to book is Marassa Steak & Sushi. Whilst enjoying stunning lake and mountain views, you can enjoy delectable Wagyu steaks and fresh sushi. This is one of the finest restaurants in the area.

The resort includes outdoor pools, the g Aveda Spa Lago and a well-stocked fitness center.

And last but not least, play golf at Reflection Bay. This Jack Nicklaus Signature Design is one of the best golf courses in Las Vegas, (which you can read about in this blog post – What are the best golf courses in Las Vegas?) and offers challenging golf alongside gorgeous views.

Omni Barton Creek Resort “Luxury in the wild west”

Omni Barton Creek Resort, Austin, Texas

Up in the rolling hills to the west of Austin, Texas, is the superb Omni Barton Creek Resort. Austin is a hip town with so much to see and do, and this base is just a 20 minute cab to downtown.

Omni Barton Creek Resort has over the years been littered with praise and awards from all the major golf magazines. This includes being one of the best golf resorts in the Southwest by GOLF Magazine.

Newly renovated, the resort sits in a secluded 4,000 acre plot, surrounded by the resort’s four superb golf courses.

All the elegant rooms have wonderful views across Austin Hill Country. Enjoy plush beds and all the mod cons.

The Mokara Spa has a range of treatments, massages and other facilities. But the climax is the stunning rooftop pool which offers expansive views as far as the eye can see. This is the ideal place to relax on a golf vacation for couples.

Seven incredible restaurant and lounge options await you. Overlooking the Fazio Canyons driving range, the Canyon’s Grill in the clubhouse is great. Whilst Bob’s Steak & Chop House is locally renowned for delivering mouth-watering prime steaks, chops and seafood. Do not miss!

The golf here is superb. Four outstanding courses designed by some of the greatest architects we’ve seen.

Tom Fazio’s two courses, the Fazio Canyons and Fazio Foothills are mighty good. Coore Crenshaw was aptly named after its highly respected designers. And lastly the Palmer Lakeside designed by the golf great Arnold Palmer. You’re spoilt for choice.

La Quinta Resort & Club “Desert glam”

To the last on our list for the best golf resorts in the US for couples. Here we look at the impressive setup which is La Quinta Resort & Club, in Palm Springs.

This vast complex is a mecca for golf and has so many facilities, it is unlikely you’ll get round them all during your romantic golf getaway.

Framed by the Santa Rosa Mountains, the resort is in the La Quinta neighborhood of Greater Palm Springs. Nothing is too far and for music lovers (or just nature lovers), the iconic Joshua Tree National Park is a 45 minute drive away.

The accommodations range from Spanish inspired casitas as well as private villas and suites. Many open out onto manicured gardens or instead have their own private patios. Expect warm and comfortable surroundings.

When it comes to ‘things to do’, you’re simply spoilt for choice. An epic 41 climate-controlled pools, 45 acres of lush gardens to explore, 21 tennis courts, a fitness and wellness center, yoga classes….do I go on?

However, on a couples golf vacation, I would recommend spending time at Plunge. This is a pool area for adults-only offering a sound system, hand-crafted cocktails and comfy casitas to nestle down in.

Compared to the golf which we’ll come on to and the facilities, the dining options are relatively more modest. There are five different dineries but when it comes to a couples golf vacation, there are two I would recommend.

Adobe Grill which serves authentic Mexican cuisine and over 100 different tequilas! And the superb Morgan’s in the desert. This is the signature restaurant at La Quinta, showcasing some of the finest American cuisine sourced from local producers.

And when it comes to golf, where do you start? Five legendary courses all within 15 minutes of the resort and each with its own clubhouse. Three golf courses designed by Pete Dye, one by Greg Norman and finally a Jack Nicklaus stunner…enjoy.

Final Words

And so this rounds off our list of best golf resorts in US for couples. I hope this has inspired you or certainly given you some direction for where to go.

But let’s be honest, any of these resorts will blow you away. I suppose it comes down to budget and how far you’re willing to travel.
