The surroundings are bliss. 300 acres of verdant tropical landscape with at its heart a 100-year Banyan tree. The architecture is Mediterranean inspired and makes for a blissful retreat.

The resort is located in a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, an area recognised for its emphasis on helping to protect and preserve the environment. 

As for the resort itself, this is luxury personified as per the AAA Five-Diamond recognition. 295 superbly appointed guest rooms are spacious offering unparalleled views. They’ve been elegantly designed and feature plenty of soft furnishings.

You’ve got a diverse choice of dining establishments. From the refined Lemonia, to the informal lounge bar of Bella Vista Lounge. EXpress(O) for a quick cup of coffee and Ria, the popular outdoor hangout serving light dishes and Latin American cocktails.

The amenities include various outdoor pools, a state-of-the-art fitness center and the impressive 51,000 square foot The Massage and Facial Center.

To feed so many people, there are nine, yes, nine restaurants onsite. So regardless of your appetite or culinary preference, you’re sure to find something that will satisfy you. 

Personal recommendations are Zen, an authentic Chinese restaurant, as well as Trevi’s Terrazza, which offers al-fresco dining in elegant surroundings.  Likewise, David’s Club is the place to go if you’re looking for quality steak and other comfort food.

Within the 15 acres of lush grounds, there are copious amenities. 

But for a romantic couples golf vacation, I expect you’ll be heading straight for the adults-only pool with its private cabanas. Or pop down to the outstanding Mokara Spa with its array of treatments to satisfy all demands.

Lastly, when you want to hit the golf course, you have two 18- hole championship courses to choose from. On one side the International Course, a links-style experience. Whilst on the other, you have the National Course, which is more stereotypical American-style.

Omni Amelia Island Resort (Jacksonville)

North west of the thriving metropolis of Jacksonville, on the barrier island south of Franklintown, is the magnificent Omni Amelia Island Resort.

Tucked up on the Atlantic coastline, this is a splendid choice with a location to die for. From the outside terrace, all you would need is a pitching wedge to reach the ocean. 

Although this is no mere outdoor terrace. This is the largest pool deck in northeastern Florida which overlooks the serene Fernandina Beach. 

There are 402 contemporary guest rooms designed with comfort in mind. Because trust me, you’ll need somewhere comfortable to collapse in to take in those ocean views.

Amongst the various dining options are two standouts. Bob’s Steak and Chop House, which serves up prime steaks and stiff drinks. Whilst the elegant Verandah offers seafood to die for.

Overlooking a meditation garden is the spa and wellness center. An exclusive retreat where you would happily unwind and watch time tick by. 

And the golf won’t let you down. Courses designed by the likes of Tom Fazio and Pete Dye. With even a Beau Welling designed short course to enjoy…what more could you want.

Naples Grande Beach Resort (Naples)

For the die-hard golfers, it’s worth stressing this is the only resort on the list without the golf onsite. The Naples Grande Golf Club is around a fifteen minute drive, a drive which takes you past a myriad of member-only clubs.

The likes of Wilderness Country Club, Grey Oaks, the superb Hole in the Wall and the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in West Florida at Bear’s Claw. But the Rees Jones designed Naples Grande Golf Course more than holds its own, having been recognised as one of North America’s best resort courses.

What you will find onsite at the resort are multiple dining options. The Catch of the Pelican offers up some of the finest fresh seafood in an informal, relaxed setting. 

My personal recommendation would be to head down to Rhode’s End, which has a stunning beachfront setting. Enjoy some lunch whilst sipping a cold beer or cocktail.

Within the heart of the resort is The Spa & Salon, a peaceful sanctuary offering 12 spacious treatment rooms. There is also the 8,000 square foot fitness center should the need arise to work up a sweat. 

All-in-all, Naples Grande Beach Resort is a stunning location and one of the best luxury options in Naples. Oh, and I forgot to mention the private beach if you don’t fancy relaxing next to one of the hotel’s outdoor pools. This is a special place.
